My MJC Story - Fall 2020 Edition
It’s been 99 years, and MJC is still changing students’ lives every day. In2020, we focus our attention on recent graduates… who will all have a story to tell their grandchildren or other loved ones in the decades to come.
I’ve seen dozens of stories from our current students and recent grads, both gut-wrenching and heart-warming. Some, sadly, have lost loved ones. Others have been accepted to universities, lost jobs or earned new jobs. Still more have changed majors, had trouble putting food on the table, struggled with anxiety or depression, celebrated a scholarship award or celebrated without fanfare that MJC degree or certificate that just came in the mail.
The themes across all of these stories are tenacity, resilience and courage. And, what’s clear is that Modesto Junior College remains a beacon of hope for students and our community. And, you the alumni, donors and friends keep that beacon bright.
There’s a photo on our wall at the MJC Foundation of 21 sophomores who graduated in the spring of 1923. Just two years prior, they and another 30 or so classmates sat in a room at Modesto High School and began their higher education at Modesto Junior College (before the first MJC campus building was built).
On Tuesday, October 20, we are hosting a “MJC Giving Day” to honor those pioneers and support their successors – today’s students. Please help us raise funds for critical programs across the MJC campus during this special event.
Thank you all for your support of our students and our great college.
