Modesto Junior College is one of the oldest community colleges in the state, established in 1921, and holds the distinction of having erected the first junior college classroom in the state. Since its inception, MJC has played an important role in offering its student quality higher education, and also serving as a cultural center in the community. From a charter enrollment of 61 students, the institution has grown to a student body of more than 19,000. Today, MJC has a diverse population of students, representing an exciting blend of many different cultures in an atmosphere that celebrates diversity, values cultural variety and encourages both creative and critical thinking.
Through the many years of offering access to excellent educational and cultural programs, and helping our students achieve their dreams, Modesto Junior College has become a cherished community tradition.
Digital Archive
The Modesto Junior College Library has digitized its student-published yearbooks and newspapers to preserve and make available the history of MJC. These resources may help students, teachers, genealogists, historians, and interested citizens learn more about the history of Modesto Junior College. It is our hope that, over time, we will be able to add historical photographs as well.
