What Makes You Proud?

I am proud that through my struggles, I have persevered – and that would not have been possible without the guidance, understanding and love from my dad. I owe to him everything that I am and ever hope to be. It is only appropriate that I dedicate these accomplishments to W.D.M.S, who was not just my dad, but my best friend. Rest easy, dad. I am a 2020 #MJCProudGraduate!

I am proud to have earned my associate degree in humanities and to have transferred to San Francisco State University to study cinema. Being a first-generation college student and the youngest of four, this has been one of my biggest accomplishments; I have definitely knocked down barriers and have created a path that will lead to a better chance of having a successful future. Graduating from Modesto Junior College isn't just an accomplishment for myself; it is also an accomplishment for those who have supported me throughout my college career thus far.

I am proud to have completed my prerequisites for nursing and received the natural science degree. Having a goal shines a light on my way to the point where I want to be, and I know that through hard work and persistence, I can do it. I can reach my destination.

I am proud because I am the first in my family to graduate from college. My journey at MJC was amazing and I have the utmost respect for the school and faculty. I was given so many opportunities and provided with lots of help, even for small things. Some challenges I faced were figuring out the direction I wanted to take my future in. I had initially wanted to get into nursing, but then I realized that my true interests were in history. I met with counselors before the start of every semester to make sure I was in the right classes and stayed on course with my educational goals, to graduate on time. I have graduated from MJC and I am currently in my first semester at Stanislaus State University pursuing a bachelor's degree to become either a middle or high school history teacher.
